Rates - Up to £650 per day. Inside IR35 via Umbrella

Job Description

  • Involved in the full project life cycle and contributing throughout, from project definition, preparing and evaluating tenders against the client's works information, conceptual and front-end design development, detail design reviews, HAZID/HAZCON/HAZOP sessions into supporting construction, installation, commissioning and project completion.
  • Promoting and managing safety within your assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the project engineering is compliant with company, HSE and industry regulations.
  • Technical support in response to and drafting of Technical Queries (or Tender Queries during procurement phase), and support with defects and non-conformance.
  • Reviewing Rotating Plant technology prequalification and type testing reports in preparation for the client's approval.
  • Interface with Technical Authority: in particular to collate Technical Authority Schedule and provide supporting information for Synchronous Compensator/FACTS technology, progress Deviation requests, support the client's team in production of material to satisfy internal Design Governance and presentation to the Design Authority, including discharge of actions from Design Authority.
  • Interface with other technical disciplines, internally and externally, including attending design reviews with Contractor and client's teams, and attending project meetings relating to all aspects of project delivery such as engineering design, contract, commissioning etc.
  • Attend other sites as required to support installation and commissioning activities, factory audits, key stages of manufacturing and Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • On project completion, undertake review of final records including, as built drawings, manuals, commissioning records and health and safety file.
  • Responsible for Rotating Plant engineering delivery on your assigned projects or across your region, for your specific discipline, of a typical capital value of £50m - £200m
  • Working closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that Engineering and Quality risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Providing technical support on high profile projects or technically complex issues.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
To be considered for this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following.

  • Demonstrable technical skills in Rotating Plant technology development, design, specification and implementation, with a preference for Synchronous Condensers but any relevant experience will be considered.
  • Self-Starter attitude, who enjoys problem solving and has an ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritise workload.
  • An understanding of the legislation and implications of such for the management of the Transmission network for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
  • Preferably hold or, with past work experience, be working towards a degree or masters in an appropriate engineering discipline depending on the level of position applied for.
  • An appreciation of multi-discipline projects, and design interface management would be desirable.
  • Candidates with a project engineering background, specialising in Rotating Plant (i.e. Synchronous Compensators, Power Plants) and FACTS engineering, in either contractor, consultancy, or client organisations within the Energy Industry.
  • Candidates background should include experience with Synchronous Condensers/Compensators, rotating plant, control systems, ancillary systems, interfacing with AC Primary Plant, with experience on Pathfinder projects favourable.
  • Candidates with Power Generation experience who are able to demonstrate relevant transferable skills


Desirable:

  • Other relevant FACTs Technology experience (e.g. STATCOM, SVC and HVDC Technology) will also be considered advantageous, but not essential.
